BACKGROUND
In November of 2010, Indianhead Community Action Agency (ICAA) relocated from Owen, WI to Neillsville, WI. Because ICAA served the Owen, Withee, and Curtiss area as both the county and local food pantry resources, the relocation was of significant concern to local residents.
Diana Ruiz of ICAA contacted area churches about the possibility of a local food pantry being started. Because God had already been at work in the hearts of many within our congregation, we were prepared and willing to step up when the opportunity came.
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW
The Community Alliance Church Food Pantry opened in November 2010. Owen, Withee, and Curtiss residents are welcome to make use of the food pantry monthly and will receive approximately one week of food for their household. We are open on the first Tuesday of the month, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the third Tuesday of the month from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and by appointment. We partner with the Feed My People food bank of Eau Claire to be good stewards of the funds we receive and we are supported by countless individuals and organizations throughout the area.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVOLVEMENT
Prayer
The presence and power of God are of unmatched significance in the work before us. Would you consider supporting us in prayer as your first and most significant means of contributing?
Volunteering
Those interesting in donating their time and serve can assist with:
- Distributing food (3 hours, twice per month)
- Unloading food delivery truck (1 hour per month)
- Stocking shelves (1-1½ hours per month)
Interested parties should contact Debbie Drinka who coordinates our volunteers. She can be reached at (715) 773-0448.
Donating Financially
We have partnered with Feed My People Food Bank in Eau Claire which allows us to receive food items for free and/or at extremely reduced rates. Many items (including frozen meats) are available to us for $0.14/lb! Recent acquisition of a freezer will has allowed us to begin adding meat and other frozen food items to the resources already available.
Donating Food Items
Other food items, such as canned goods, are not available through Feed My People at such extraordinary rates. Food donations that complement what we can purchase through Feed My People are particularly appreciated. Examples include: canned vegetables, canned fruits, soups, spaghetti sauce, etc.
Donating Personal Hygiene Items
Donations of toiletries (all types) are likewise appreciated: toilet paper, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, diapers, etc.
